Use case · Retrigger on Facebook Pages

Your Page post already has the comments.
Now message every one of them.

Retrigger runs a Messenger automation over the comments already sitting on a Facebook Page post: people who commented before the automation existed, or while it was paused. Comments from the last 7 days, anyone already messaged left out, sent at a pace Meta is comfortable with.

Updated October 2026 · Human-verified
Official Messenger Platform · Meta-verified Tech Provider · Pages start on Pro, $9/mo
1Retrigger takes a live comment automation on your Facebook Page and runs it on comments that were already on the post, so earlier commenters get the same Messenger message as new ones.
2Meta lets a Page privately reply to each comment once, within 7 days. Reachlee asks Meta which comments still qualify and leaves the rest out, including ones already answered from Business Suite or another tool.
3Up to 200 new people per Page per day, oldest comments first, paced so live comments always go first. Included on Pro ($9/mo), Growth and Business.

Can you message people who already commented on a Facebook post?

Yes, inside limits Meta sets for every tool. A Facebook Page can send one private Messenger reply to each comment, and only within 7 days of when the comment was posted. Reachlee's Retrigger runs your comment automation over the comments still inside that window, skips anyone already messaged and sends at a safe pace. Comments older than 7 days can't receive a private reply from any tool.

Why Page posts end up with comments nobody answered

A comment automation reacts to comments that arrive after it goes live. Pages rarely work that way. The offer post goes up on Friday, a local group shares it, and by Sunday there are 140 comments asking for the price while the automation you meant to build is still a note on your phone. Or the automation was paused for a day while you changed the offer. Retrigger closes that gap. It reads the post's comments through Meta's Graph API, keeps the top-level comments that match your keyword, checks with Meta which ones can still get a private reply, and queues them oldest first. Each person then gets exactly what the automation sends to new commenters: the same Messenger message, the same buttons, the same tracked link. The post itself can be weeks old; what has to be recent is each comment, because Meta's private-reply window closes 7 days after the comment was written.

  • Reads: top-level comments on the posts your automation covers, newest posts first for Any post automations.
  • Leaves out: comments older than 7 days, comments you hid, the Page's own comments, and anyone who already got this automation's message for that post.
  • Sends: the automation's own Messenger message to each eligible commenter, one at a time, with live comments always ahead in the queue.
How it works

From a missed weekend to a cleared backlog.

01

Put a comment automation live on the Page

Connect the Page under Settings → Connected accounts → Connect account → Facebook, then build the comment automation you wanted in the first place, for example from the 'Auto DM links from comments' template. Choose the post, the keyword and the Messenger message, and press Go Live.

02

Press Retrigger

Right after you go live, the Automations list shows how many people commented before the automation existed, with a Retrigger button beside it. You can also open any live comment automation later and press Retrigger in the top bar.

03

Read the count, then start

Before anything sends, Reachlee shows how many missed comments match and can still be messaged, plus how many matching comments are too old for Meta's window. A figure like '50+' means the check looked at the newest comments only; the full scan runs once you press Start retrigger.

04

Let it work through the queue

The run happens on Reachlee's servers, so you can close the tab. Progress shows sent and skipped people as it goes, live comments keep getting instant replies, and Stop ends the run whenever you like.

Built for Pages

What Retrigger checks before each Messenger message.

01

Meta's own eligibility flag

For every Page comment Reachlee requests Meta's answer to one question: can this comment still receive a private reply? Comments outside the 7-day window, or already answered privately by your team in Business Suite, by another tool or by Reachlee, come back as no and never enter the queue.

02

One message per person per post

Someone who commented three times (a typo fix, an extra question) gets one message, keyed to their oldest comment. Anyone this automation already messaged about the same post in the last 7 days is removed before the run starts, so the count you see is people, not comments.

03

A pace well under Meta's ceiling

Meta caps a Page at 750 private replies an hour. Retrigger sends one message at a time with gaps between them, uses only part of the Page's hourly budget so live comments keep their share, and stops at 200 new people per Page per day. The rest wait for tomorrow's run.

04

Live comments go first

If someone comments on the post while a run is working through the backlog, their reply goes out straight away. The backfill fills the quiet moments between live messages instead of competing with them.

05

The automation's real message

There is nothing separate to write. Whatever the automation sends to new commenters goes to past ones: text with a button, a tracked link, a product carousel, an email or phone question. If it also replies publicly under comments, that reply is posted only after the private message is delivered.

06

Several posts in one run

An automation that covers several specific posts is retriggered across all of them at once, with the scan split per post so one busy post can't crowd out the others. An Any post automation scans the Page's 10 most recent posts.

Real scenarios

Three Page situations Retrigger was made for.

The offer post took off before the automation existed

Before

A bakery Page posts its festive box on Thursday evening. By Saturday 180 people have commented PRICE, some twice, and the owner has answered twenty of them by hand between orders.

With Reachlee

She builds a PRICE automation with the price list and an order button, goes live, and presses Retrigger. Everyone from the last 7 days who hasn't been answered gets the message in Messenger over the next few hours, oldest first, while new comments are answered instantly.

Moving off Business Suite's comment-to-message

Before

A fitness studio used Meta Business Suite's free comment-to-message for one fixed text reply. It wants buttons, a tracked sign-up link and a follow-up, but worries the switch will leave a gap or message people twice.

With Reachlee

It rebuilds the reply in Reachlee and runs Retrigger on the active posts. Comments Business Suite already answered are flagged by Meta as replied and stay out; comments that arrived during the switch get the new message.

A paused automation, a missed day

Before

A furniture store paused its SOFA automation for a day to update prices. The post kept collecting comments, and nobody noticed until a customer complained that the link never came.

With Reachlee

After the new prices go live, one Retrigger run sends the updated message to everyone who commented during the pause. People the automation had already reached before the pause are skipped automatically.

Business Suite's free comment-to-message is fine for one standing text reply on new comments. Retrigger is for the comments that are already there.

Pricing

Retrigger for Facebook Pages comes with Pro, $9/mo.

Facebook Pages start on Pro: $9/mo for 3 connected accounts shared between Instagram and Facebook Pages, unlimited messages, contacts and leads, automations on one post, several posts or every post, Retrigger, follow-ups and lifetime analytics. Growth ($14/mo) adds Reachlee AI with 1,000 credits a month, and Business ($29/mo) adds 10 accounts, 5 team seats, Google Sheets and 2,500 AI credits. The Free plan covers one Instagram account. If a Page post is sitting on a weekend of unanswered PRICE comments, one run usually covers the month.

FAQ

Retriggering Facebook comments, answered plainly.

How far back can Retrigger reach on a Facebook Page?

Seven days from each comment. Meta allows a Page one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment being posted, and that rule applies to every tool on the Messenger Platform. The post can be months old; Retrigger simply works on the comments that are still inside their window. Before you start, the Retrigger window tells you how many matching comments are too old, so you know what can't be reached. A tool that promises to message commenters from last month is either mistaken or working outside Meta's rules.

Will anyone get the same message twice?

No. Three checks stand in the way. Meta itself marks a comment as no longer repliable once it has received a private reply from anyone, and Reachlee drops those comments. Reachlee also records every comment it has answered, and it removes people this automation already messaged about the same post in the last 7 days, keeping one comment per person. Running Retrigger again the next day only picks up people who are genuinely new.

Could a big backfill get my Page restricted?

Retrigger is built to look like a Page replying to its comments over a few hours, not a burst. It sends one message at a time with gaps, stays far below Meta's 750 private replies an hour per Page, caps itself at 200 new people per Page per day, and pauses automatically if Meta signals a rate limit. Everything goes through Meta's official Messenger Platform, and Reachlee is a Meta-verified Tech Provider. There is no faster mode to switch on by mistake.

Why does the count say 50+ instead of an exact number?

The count you see before starting comes from a quick read of each post's newest comments, so it appears in seconds instead of making you wait for a full scan. When there are more comments beyond that sample, it shows a number with a plus. Pressing Start retrigger runs the complete scan on Reachlee's servers and the progress view fills in the real total. If more than 200 people qualify, the first 200 go today, oldest first, and you run it again tomorrow for the rest.

How often can I run it?

Each automation can be retriggered once every 24 hours, and one run works on a Page at a time, so two automations never compete for the same sending budget. You can stop a run whenever you want from the same window. A post that keeps collecting comments can be swept again the next day; people already handled are skipped every time.

Where will people see the message?

In Messenger, as a private reply to the comment they left. Most people open it like any other message from a Page. Brand-new Pages sometimes find their first messages landing in Message Requests or the Spam folder; that tends to fade as the Page builds a history of real conversations. If the message asks them to tap a button, the tap opens Messenger's 24-hour window and the rest of your automation can follow.

Does it include replies inside comment threads?

No. Retrigger reads the top-level comments on a post, which is where people type your keyword in practice. Replies nested under another comment are left alone, and so are comments you have hidden and comments the Page posted itself. That keeps runs predictable: the count you are shown is the set of people who asked on the post directly.

Is Retrigger on the Free plan, and does it work on Instagram?

Retrigger is part of Pro ($9/mo) and above, and Facebook Pages start on Pro anyway. The Free plan covers one Instagram account with live comment-to-DM automations. On Instagram, Retrigger works the same way under the same 7-day rule, and both channels run from one Reachlee workspace.
