Best Facebook Messenger
automation tools (2026)
Nine tools that automate a Facebook Page's Messenger, checked against each vendor's own pricing and help pages: what's free, what it really costs, which ones turn a comment into a Messenger conversation, and where a competitor is the better buy.
Short answer
The best Facebook Messenger automation tool depends on the job. For one free, fixed reply, use Meta Business Suite. For flows across Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and SMS, use ManyChat. For a team inbox with routing at scale, use respond.io. For Instagram and Facebook Pages on one flat price, with Retrigger for comments that arrived before setup and AI that hands hard questions to you, use Reachlee. None of them can message a personal profile, a Group, or someone who never contacted the Page.

Competitor figures were read from each vendor's own pricing page or help centre in October 2026, except Meta Business Suite's keyword limits, which come from our September 2026 test. Prices are USD list prices; several vendors show yearly-billed prices only, and ManyChat varies its prices by billing country. Re-check before you buy, because plans in this market change several times a year.
What Messenger automation can and can't do in 2026
Every tool on this page runs on the same foundation: Meta's Messenger Platform, which lets an approved app read and answer a Facebook Page's messages and comments. A Page can answer anyone who messages it, reply privately to a comment, show tappable starter questions in a new chat, and keep a conversation going for 24 hours after the person's last message. It cannot start a conversation with someone who never wrote, message a post's commenters twice for the same comment, or reach personal profiles and Groups. The tools differ in how much of that surface they automate, how they price it, and what they add on top.
- Comment to Messenger: one private reply per comment, within 7 days of it. The conversation only continues if the person replies or taps a button.
- Keyword replies and starter questions: answer the messages a Page gets most, in seconds, at any hour.
- The 24-hour window: free-form messages, including promotions, only within 24 hours of the person's last message.
- Outside the window: message tags for specific non-promotional updates, a human reply under HUMAN_AGENT within 7 days, or paid Sponsored Messages. No free broadcast.
- Never possible on the official platform: personal profiles, Groups, cold messages to people who never wrote, and mass messages to everyone who ever messaged the Page.
1. Reachlee: Instagram and Facebook Pages on one flat price
Reachlee automates a Page's comments and Messenger next to Instagram accounts, in one workspace, on Meta's official APIs. A keyword comment on a Page post gets a public reply and a private Messenger message with your link, a product carousel of up to 10 cards, or a question that collects an email or phone number. Keyword replies and up to 4 ice breakers answer the messages a Page gets most. If someone opens the chat but never taps, one follow-up goes out and cancels itself the moment they act. Retrigger runs an automation over the comments a post collected in the last 7 days, skipping anyone the Page already messaged, which is the fix for a post that took off before the automation existed. On Growth, Reachlee AI answers Messenger questions from the Page's own knowledge and flags what it can't answer for a person. Disclosure: Reachlee is our product.
- Strengths: flat price with unlimited DMs and contacts on paid plans; Instagram and Pages in one place; Retrigger for past comments; AI replies with a human handoff on Growth.
- Limits: Facebook Pages start on Pro ($9/mo); the Free plan covers one Instagram account. No WhatsApp, SMS or email channels, and no story triggers or follow checks on Pages, because Meta doesn't expose them.
- Pick it if your Page and your Instagram both get comments and DMs, and you want one tool at a price that doesn't rise with your audience.
2. ManyChat: the multi-channel flow builder
ManyChat is the best-known name in Messenger automation, and its breadth is real: Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, SMS and email in one visual flow builder, with a large template library and an agency ecosystem. Its Facebook Comments trigger replies to comments on a specific post or any post, filtered by keywords you include or exclude, publicly and in Messenger. Since 2 March 2026 its plans are priced by active contacts: Free covers 25 active contacts a month on up to 2 channels with 4 live automations; Essential is $17/mo ($14 yearly) for 250 contacts; Pro is $39/mo ($29 yearly) for 2,500 contacts and includes ManyChat AI; Business and Advanced scale to 7,500 and 25,000 contacts. ManyChat's own help article notes that the comments trigger can't respond to comments made before it was set up.
- Strengths: the deepest flow builder here, WhatsApp and SMS from Pro, AI included from Pro, and the largest library of templates and tutorials.
- Limits: the bill follows active contacts, so a busy month costs more; the Free plan's 25 contacts can be one afternoon of comments on a busy Page.
- Pick it if one funnel has to run across Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, or you build complex branching flows for clients.
3. Chatfuel: AI-led bots across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp
Chatfuel is one of the original Messenger bot builders and now leads with AI. Its comment automation can reply under a Facebook comment, send a private Messenger message, or both, and its AI agents answer from the information you give them. As of October 2026 Chatfuel's pricing page lists Business at $18/mo billed yearly with $20 of AI credits a month, and an Agency plan at $90/mo billed yearly for up to 3 companies. There is no free plan; every plan starts with a free trial that needs no card. WhatsApp message fees from Meta are charged separately from the plan, from the same credits wallet.
- Strengths: comment replies in public and in Messenger, AI included on every plan, WhatsApp next to Facebook and Instagram.
- Limits: no free plan; the pricing page shows yearly-billed prices only and points to a separate page for usage limits.
- Pick it if you want an AI-first bot on Facebook and WhatsApp and are comfortable starting with a trial.
4. Meta Business Suite: free, built in, and deliberately simple
Meta Business Suite includes free Inbox automations for every Page: an instant reply for first-time messagers, an away message, frequently asked questions shown at the start of a chat, Comment to message, and custom keyword replies. For a small Page that needs one plain answer, it is genuinely enough and costs nothing. Its limits show up fast on a busier one. In our September 2026 test, Comment to message and custom keywords allowed up to 5 keywords, matched case-sensitively, each used by only one automation, sending one fixed reply after a 15-minute delay unless you replied first, and both had to be set up on desktop.
- Strengths: free, no extra app to approve, and the same inbox for a linked Instagram account.
- Limits: one fixed reply, no follow-up, no lead capture or export, no product carousel, no way to reach comments that came in earlier, and a delay that loses impatient commenters.
- Pick it if your Page gets a trickle of comments and messages and a single answer covers most of them.
5. respond.io: a team inbox for high volume
respond.io is a customer conversation platform for teams that handle chats across WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram, with routing, assignment, workflows and AI agents. Its Private Replies feature sends an automatic private message to people who comment on all posts or specific posts, under Meta's one-reply-per-comment, 7-day rule. As of October 2026 Starter is $99/mo ($79/mo yearly) with 5 users and 5,000 AI credits; Growth is $199/mo ($159 yearly) with 10 users and AI agents; Advanced is $349/mo ($279 yearly). Starter and Growth start with 1,000 monthly active contacts, and extra contacts are billed per 100 on Growth and Advanced. There is a 7-day trial and no free plan.
- Strengths: routing and assignment for a support or sales team, workflows, AI agents from Growth, strong WhatsApp support.
- Limits: priced for teams; a single creator or small shop pays for seats and routing it won't use.
- Pick it if several agents answer Messenger and WhatsApp all day and you need assignment, reporting and service levels.
6. SendPulse: a budget chatbot suite
SendPulse bundles chatbots for Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, TikTok and website chat with its email and SMS tools. Its Facebook chatbot has a comment trigger that starts a flow when someone comments on a Page post; because of Meta's rules, that first flow can be one message with one button or several quick replies until the person responds. As of October 2026 the Free plan includes 3 chatbots, 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month. Pro is priced by subscribers, from $12/mo for 500 ($9.60/mo billed yearly), and lists a ChatGPT integration.
- Strengths: a usable free tier, many channels, and email marketing from the same vendor.
- Limits: the price rises with your subscriber count, and AI is an integration rather than a built-in replies product.
- Pick it if you want one inexpensive suite for chatbots on several messengers plus email.
7. Spur: automation for Shopify and D2C brands
Spur focuses on online brands that sell on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, with a Shopify integration, an AI agent and a shared inbox. Its comment trigger replies to Instagram and Facebook comments both on the post and as a private message, and its AI agent can hand a chat to a person. As of October 2026 its pricing page lists AI Acquire at $12/mo billed yearly ($144 a year) with one Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and live chat channel each and 100 AI credits a month; AI Start is $31/mo billed yearly and adds WhatsApp automation and 2,000 credits. Contacts are unlimited, and every plan has a 14-day free trial with no card.
- Strengths: commerce features, unlimited contacts, comment-to-DM on Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp on the higher plans.
- Limits: no free plan, and the entry plan's 100 AI credits go quickly if AI answers most chats.
- Pick it if you run a Shopify store and want WhatsApp and Messenger automation from one commerce-minded vendor.
8. Tidio: website chat and a support inbox
Tidio is a customer service tool first: website live chat, an AI agent called Lyro, and a shared inbox where Messenger and Instagram messages arrive next to your site chat. Facebook comments come in too, as tickets your team answers by hand, and its Messenger flows can react to keywords in messages. We found no comment-to-Messenger automation in Tidio's own help pages, so it gets a no in that column. As of October 2026 Free covers 50 billable conversations a month, Starter is $24.17/mo billed yearly for 100, and Growth starts at $49.17/mo; Lyro gives 50 free conversations for life and starts at $32.50/mo on its own.
- Strengths: a polished support inbox, website chat, and Messenger and Instagram on every plan, including Free.
- Limits: billed by conversations, and no automated comment-to-Messenger funnel.
- Pick it if Messenger is one support channel among several and your website chat matters as much as your Page.
9. InstantDM: flat pricing with Facebook Page comments
InstantDM is an Instagram-first automation tool with flat yearly pricing and no per-contact charges. Its Free plan covers one Instagram account with 500 DM automations a month. Paid plans add Facebook: as of October 2026 its pricing page lists Facebook Page comment-to-DM on Legend Pro at $9.99/mo billed yearly, and an AI flow editor that uses your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek key from Trendsetter at $24.99/mo billed yearly. Paid plans have a 7-day free trial.
- Strengths: flat pricing, an inexpensive paid tier that includes Page comments, and bring-your-own-model AI.
- Limits: the Free plan doesn't include Facebook, and the pricing page shows yearly billing only.
- Pick it if you are mainly on Instagram, want Page comments covered cheaply, and are happy to manage your own AI key.
How we compared, and what we left out
We read each vendor's own pricing page and help centre in October 2026 and recorded the free plan, the cheapest paid plan, the pricing model, whether a Page comment can start a Messenger conversation automatically, how AI is sold, and whether Instagram is covered. Where a vendor shows only yearly-billed prices we say so, and where sources disagreed we used the vendor's current pricing page. Meta Business Suite's limits come from our own test in September 2026, written up in our guide to Business Suite's comment-to-message limits. Reachlee is our product; its row uses our current list prices.
- Sources: manychat.com/pricing and ManyChat's help centre, chatfuel.com/pricing, respond.io/pricing, sendpulse.com/pricing/messengers, spurnow.com/pricing, tidio.com/pricing, instantdm.com/pricing.
- Left out: MobileMonkey, long a Messenger staple, rebranded as Customers.ai and moved to website-visitor identification; we couldn't find a current official page for its Messenger builder.
- Left out: Zapier and Make. They connect a Page's messages to spreadsheets and other apps, which is useful plumbing, but they aren't comment-to-Messenger tools.
- Left out on purpose: anything that automates personal profiles or Groups, or sends messages through a logged-in browser. None of that is allowed on Meta's platform.
Four questions that pick the tool for you
1. Is it one Page, or a funnel across channels?
A Page that wants instant answers and a link for commenters needs comment-to-Messenger, keyword replies and starter questions. A funnel that moves people on to WhatsApp or SMS needs a multi-channel builder like ManyChat.
2. Does the price follow your audience?
ManyChat counts active contacts, respond.io counts monthly active contacts, SendPulse counts subscribers and Tidio counts conversations, so a post that performs raises next month's bill. Reachlee, Chatfuel, Spur and InstantDM charge a flat plan price. Model the busiest month you expect, not an average one.
3. What happens to comments from before you set it up?
Most comment triggers only see new comments, so the people who commented before the automation went live get nothing. Reachlee's Retrigger works through a post's last 7 days of comments, the most Meta allows.
4. Who answers when the bot can't?
AI that guesses is worse than no AI. Check what a tool does with a question outside its knowledge, a complaint, or a request for a person. On Reachlee's Growth plan those conversations are marked Needs you and sent to you by email or Telegram.
There is no single best Facebook Messenger automation tool, because Pages want different jobs done. Choose Meta Business Suite if one free, fixed reply covers your Page. Choose ManyChat if your funnel runs across Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and SMS and you want the deepest flow builder; budget for active-contact pricing. Choose respond.io if a team answers chats all day and needs routing and assignment. Choose Chatfuel for an AI-first bot with WhatsApp, Spur for a Shopify store, SendPulse for a budget suite with a free tier, Tidio when Messenger is one support channel next to website chat, and InstantDM for cheap Page comments on an Instagram-first setup. Choose Reachlee if your Page and your Instagram both need comment-to-DM and instant answers on one flat price, with Retrigger for comments that came in before setup and AI that hands hard questions to a person. As of October 2026, that combination is what we built it for.
Your Facebook Page and Instagram, from $9/mo.
Reachlee Pro is $9/mo flat: 3 connected accounts shared between Instagram and Facebook Pages, unlimited DMs, contacts and leads, comment-to-Messenger, keyword replies, ice breakers, product carousels, one follow-up and Retrigger. Growth ($14/mo) adds Reachlee AI with 1,000 credits a month and Needs you alerts. Business ($29/mo) adds 10 accounts, 5 team seats, Google Sheets and 2,500 credits. The Free plan covers one Instagram account; Facebook Pages start on Pro.
Get startedFacebook Messenger automation tools: FAQ
Can I automate a personal Facebook profile?
No. The Messenger Platform works with Facebook Pages only. A personal profile, including one in professional mode, can't receive comment webhooks or send Messenger messages through the API, so no compliant tool can automate it. Facebook Groups are out too: Meta gives apps access to Page-owned content, not Group content. A tool that offers profile or Group automation is driving a logged-in browser, which breaks Meta's terms and puts the account at risk.
Is Facebook Messenger automation allowed?
Yes, when it runs on Meta's Messenger Platform. Meta publishes the platform, the Page permissions and the policy, and reviews each app before it can message on a Page's behalf. Every tool on this page works that way. What gets Pages restricted is the other kind of automation: browser scripts that message from a logged-in account, posting into Groups, and promotions disguised as message tags. If a tool asks for your Facebook password rather than sending you through Meta's own login, walk away.
What is the 24-hour rule, and do message tags get around it?
A Page may send free-form messages, promotions included, within 24 hours of the person's last message. After that, Meta allows only a few things: message tags for specific non-promotional updates such as a confirmed event, a purchase or an account change; a human reply under the HUMAN_AGENT tag within 7 days; and paid Sponsored Messages. Using a tag to send a promotion is a policy violation, not a loophole. No tool on this list can send a free promotional broadcast to everyone who ever messaged your Page.
What is the best free Facebook Messenger automation tool?
As of October 2026: Meta Business Suite is free and covers one fixed reply per keyword, with 5 case-sensitive keywords and a 15-minute delay. ManyChat's Free plan covers 25 active contacts a month on 2 channels. SendPulse's Free plan covers 3 bots, 500 subscribers and 10,000 messages a month. Tidio's Free plan covers 50 conversations a month but doesn't automate comments. Reachlee's Free plan covers one Instagram account; Facebook Pages start on Pro at $9/mo.
Do I need a Facebook Page to automate Messenger?
Yes. Messenger automation is attached to a Page, and you need admin access to connect it. In Reachlee you sign in, choose Connect Facebook, and pick the Pages you manage through Meta's own login, so the tool never sees your password. Each Page counts as one connected account, shared with your Instagram accounts: 3 on Pro and 10 on Business. If your Instagram is linked to the Page, you can automate both from the same workspace.
Will Messenger automation get my Page restricted?
Not when it stays within Meta's rules. Meta limits how fast a Page can message; when a tool pushes too hard, Meta returns rate-limit errors, and a compliant tool pauses and waits. Reachlee paces its sends and pauses an account automatically when Meta asks it to. Restrictions come from sustained violations: messaging outside the window, misusing tags, or sending things people block and report.
How many commenters can I message from one post?
Each comment can receive one private reply, sent within 7 days of the comment, and the conversation continues only if the person replies or taps a button. There is no fixed cap per post beyond Meta's rate limits, but most comment triggers only see comments that arrive after they go live. ManyChat's help centre says its trigger can't respond to comments made before it was set up. Reachlee's Retrigger works through the last 7 days of a post's comments and skips anyone already messaged. A first message to someone who never messaged the Page may land in their message requests.
Can these tools message everyone who ever messaged my Page?
Only inside the 24-hour rule. A Page can send a campaign to people who messaged it in the last 24 hours, and reach others when they next write in. Reachlee campaigns on a Page work exactly that way: Active contacts get the message when you send it, and with Keep it open (Pro) everyone else in the audience gets it the moment they message you, for up to 30 days. No compliant tool can blast every past contact for free.
