A DM campaign for the people
who already message you.
Pick a folder or a segment of your contacts, build the sequence on a canvas (a link, a question, an email ask, a reminder) and send it now or on a schedule. Each person moves through it on their own, and every answer, click and email lands back on their contact. Works on Instagram and Facebook Pages, inside Meta's 24-hour rule.
The short answer
Yes, you can run a segmented DM campaign on Instagram, as long as it goes to people who have messaged you. In Reachlee you pick folders or segments of your contacts, build a sequence (announcement, question, email ask, reminder) and send it. Anyone who messaged you in the last 24 hours gets it right away; the rest get it when they next message you, for up to 30 days. Nobody who never sent you a DM is messaged.
What a DM campaign is, and what it isn't
Most Instagram automation answers people: someone comments a keyword or sends a DM, and a reply goes out. A campaign works the other way round. You decide who should hear from you, write the sequence once, and click Send campaign. Reachlee walks each person through it individually: a question waits for their answer, a link waits for their click, and each answer can lead to a different next message. What a campaign is not is a blast to your followers. Meta lets a business message a person only within 24 hours of that person's last message, and every tool on the official API works under that rule. So a campaign is aimed at the people already talking to you, the ones who asked for your price list or replied to your story, which is also the group most likely to buy. The full rule set is in what Instagram allows for broadcast messages.
- Audience: all contacts, specific folders or segments, or hand-picked people, minus anyone in a folder or segment you exclude.
- Sequence: messages, questions with up to 13 quick replies, tracked links, email or phone asks, waits and folder steps, connected into branches on a canvas.
- Result: each person's answers, clicks and captured emails saved to their contact, with live results while the campaign runs.
Automations answer. Campaigns reach out.
| Automations | Campaigns | |
|---|---|---|
| Starts when | Someone comments, sends a keyword or replies to a story | You click Send campaign, or at the time you schedule |
| Who gets it | Whoever triggers it, one person at a time | The audience you pick: all contacts, folders or segments |
| Runs | Always on, until you pause it | Once, then stays open for latecomers if you choose |
| Someone who only commented | One private reply, within 7 days of the comment | Not reachable: they're Pending until they send a DM |
| Plans | Free and up | Build and send now on Free; schedule and Keep it open on Pro |
Most accounts use both. Automations start conversations, and every conversation makes that person reachable by the next campaign.
From a folder of contacts to a sent campaign.
Pick the audience
Go to Campaigns → New campaign, or select people on the Contacts page and click Send campaign in the bar at the bottom. Under Send campaign to, choose All contacts, Specific folders or segments, or keep the hand-picked selection. Under Don't send campaign to, tick anything to leave out, such as a Customers folder for a sales offer. View contacts lists exactly who is in the audience.
Build the sequence
Start from a template (Announcement, Ask a question, Collect emails, Ask for a follow, Personal AI message, Share a new post) or an empty canvas. Each card is one step, with exits along its bottom edge such as Clicked and Not clicked, or one exit per quick-reply answer. Connect each exit to what should happen next, and use the {{first_name}} chip so every DM greets the person by name.
Preview it, then send a real test
Preview plays the sequence in a phone the way a contact sees it, with a choice at every branch so you can walk each path. Switch to Test to send it for real to one reachable person, ideally your own second account, and tap through it on your phone. Tests run every step but never count in the results.
Send now, or schedule it
Click Send campaign. The confirmation shows how many people get it right away (the Active contacts) before you commit, and messages go out gradually over the first minutes rather than all at once. On Pro, the arrow next to Send campaign offers Schedule for later; the audience is worked out at send time, so people who join a folder before then are included.
Read the results and act on them
The results page counts Audience, Reachable, Started, Messages sent, Replied and Clicked, then lists every recipient as Waiting, In progress, Finished, Replied, Skipped (with the reason), Failed or Stopped. The Answers tab shows every reply and email. Filter to Finished or Replied and add them all to a folder for your next step.
Built for segmented sends, not blasts.
The controls a campaign needs so it reaches the right people once, and gets out of the way when someone wants to talk.
Folders and segments as the audience
Send to a folder you filled by hand, like Hot leads, or a segment that updates itself, like people who messaged you in the last 7 days and have no email yet. Tick as many as you like; someone in two of them is messaged once, and segments are worked out at the moment the campaign sends.
Exclusions that always win
Don't send campaign to removes folders or segments from the audience even when those people also match it. The usual ones: Customers when you send an offer, Collab requests when the campaign is for your audience, and a Has email segment when the campaign asks for an email, so nobody is asked twice.
Skip recently reached
On by default at 72 hours. Anyone another campaign messaged in that time is left out and shows as skipped because they were reached by another campaign. Raise it to as much as 30 days or switch it off. It keeps a busy launch week from turning into three campaigns in one person's inbox.
Keep it open for latecomers
Pro and above: 7 days by default, up to 30. Contacts who aren't reachable when you send wait in the campaign, and the moment one of them messages you, they get it. When the days run out, anyone still waiting is marked as never became reachable in time. Without it, the campaign reaches only the people who are Active at send time.
Branches from real answers
Ask a question shows up to 13 tappable answers, each with its own exit, and saves the answer under a name you choose. Send a link waits to see who clicks, so a reminder goes only to people who didn't. Ask for an email or phone checks the reply, asks once more if it isn't valid, and saves it to the contact.
Stop on reply
On by default. If someone writes back in the middle of a sequence, and that step wasn't waiting for an answer, the rest of their sequence doesn't send and they show as Replied. You take the conversation from there in the Inbox. Switch it off for announcement-style sequences where every message should go out regardless.
Three campaigns worth sending this month.
A launch, sent to the people who asked
For three weeks people have commented "when?" and DMed "is it out yet?". On launch day you paste the link into forty threads by hand, lose track of who you've answered, and the people who asked first hear about it last.
Everyone who asked is in a Waitlist folder. You send the Announcement template to it: a tracked link, then a reminder only for people who haven't clicked. Active contacts get it within minutes, Keep it open catches the rest as they message you, and the results show who clicked.
An offer that skips your existing customers
You want to offer a discount to people who showed interest but never bought. Your only option is a story everyone sees, including the customers who paid full price last week.
A segment of contacts who clicked a link in the last 30 days, with your Customers folder excluded. The offer reaches warm, unconverted contacts only, Skip recently reached keeps it from landing on top of last week's campaign, and nobody who already bought is pitched.
Emails from people already talking to you
Your DMs are busy, but almost none of those people are on your email list. Asking each one by hand feels awkward, so it never happens.
A segment of contacts active in the last 7 days with no email yet gets the Collect emails template. Reachlee checks each reply, asks once more if it isn't an email address, saves it to the contact and lists it in the Answers tab, ready to export on Pro.
Build and send free. Schedule and keep it open on Pro.
Every plan can create campaigns, build any sequence, preview it and send tests, and Free can send now to everyone reachable at that moment. Pro at $9/mo adds scheduling, Keep it open for up to 30 days, contact filters, A/B splits, Ask for a follow, Email me and CSV export of answers. Growth at $14/mo adds AI message, AI condition, Hand over to Reachlee AI and understanding typed replies. Business at $29/mo adds Add to Google Sheet. Campaign DMs count toward your plan's monthly DM limit: 1,000 on Free, unlimited on paid plans.

Will sending a campaign get my account restricted?
A campaign only messages people inside Meta's rules: contacts who messaged you in the last 24 hours, or who message you while the campaign is open. Nobody who never sent you a DM is contacted, which is the behaviour that gets accounts flagged. Messages go out gradually over the first minutes instead of in one burst, and Reachlee pauses an account automatically when Meta asks it to slow down. It all runs on Meta's official API, with no scraping or logged-in browser sessions.
Can I send a campaign to all my followers?
No, and no tool on the official API can. A follow isn't a message, and Meta doesn't allow the first message to come from a business. Followers who never interacted with you aren't contacts at all, and people who only commented show as Pending. A campaign reaches people who have messaged you. To grow that group, keep comment-to-DM and story-reply automations running: every conversation they start makes that person reachable.
How many people will actually receive it?
Everyone in the audience who is reachable. Before you confirm, the send dialog says how many get it right away; if Keep it open is on, the rest wait and get it the moment they message you. After sending, the Reachable tile shows how many could be messaged as a share of the audience. If nobody can receive it yet, the dialog says so, and you can still send it to catch people as they write in.
Will someone get two campaigns back to back?
Not by default. Skip recently reached is on at 72 hours, so anyone another campaign messaged in the last three days is left out and listed as skipped with the reason. Within one campaign, someone who sits in two of your chosen folders or segments is messaged once. You can lengthen the gap to as much as 30 days, or switch the rule off for a follow-up campaign that is meant to come straight after the last one.
What happens to people who don't reply or don't click?
That is what branches are for. A Send a link step has a Not clicked after… exit, so a reminder goes only to people who didn't click, and questions can have a No reply after… exit. One limit applies to every step: nothing can be sent outside the 24-hour window. If a person's window closes mid-sequence, their sequence ends and the results say they couldn't be messaged any more, so time reminders in hours rather than days.
Can people stop receiving campaigns?
Yes. An Opt out step on a "stop messaging me" answer, or Opt out in the Contacts bulk bar, stops all automated messages to that person: automations, campaigns and AI replies. Opted-out contacts are left out of every campaign until you opt them back in from their contact details. With Stop on reply on, anyone who starts typing back mid-sequence is handed to you in the Inbox instead of receiving the rest.
Does it work on Facebook Pages?
Yes. A campaign sends from whichever connected account is selected at the top of the sidebar, an Instagram professional account or a Facebook Page, and each campaign belongs to one account. The same 24-hour rule applies in Messenger. The one step that behaves differently is Ask for a follow: it only applies on Instagram, so on a Page everyone continues as if they follow. Facebook Pages are available from Pro; Free covers one Instagram account.
Can I try it without paying?
Yes. The whole editor is on Free: unlimited campaigns, every step, the phone preview and real test sends, including steps your plan can't send yet. Free can also send now to everyone reachable at that moment, within the 1,000 DMs a month the plan includes. Steps and settings above your plan carry a small badge, and the upgrade prompt only appears when you send something that needs a higher plan.
