Meta Business Suite comment-to-message:
what the free automation can and can't do.
Meta ships a free Comment to message automation inside Business Suite, and for a lot of Pages it is genuinely enough. Here is exactly what it does, every limit we could verify, and the honest line between "use the free tool" and "you have outgrown it".
The short answer
Meta Business Suite's Comment to message automation sends one fixed short text reply in Messenger when a comment on your Facebook Page contains a keyword. Its keyword rules allow up to 5 keywords, matched case-sensitively, each usable in only one automation, and the reply goes out after a 15-minute delay unless you reply first. Setup is desktop only. There is no follow-up, lead capture, Google Sheets, product carousel, per-post analytics, AI, or way to run it on older comments. If you need one reply and can live with the delay, it is enough. If you need links that convert, contact capture or a second message, you need a tool built on the Messenger Platform.
What Business Suite gives you for free.
In a desktop browser, open Meta Business Suite → your Page → Inbox → Automations. Instant reply greets first-time messagers; Away message answers when you are closed. Frequently asked questions shows suggested questions at the start of a new conversation and answers them automatically; developers know it as Messenger ice breakers, up to 4 questions per locale with text up to 80 characters. Comment to message watches Page post comments for a keyword and sends a Messenger reply; Custom keywords does the same for incoming messages. Quick answers cover contact info, location and hours. All free, no third-party app, and running on the same Messenger Platform every automation tool uses.
The limits, one by one.
The constraints we could verify as of September 2026. They are not bugs; they are the shape of a free tool built for small Pages answering simple questions.
- 5 keywords maximum, matched case-sensitively. "Link", "link" and "LINK" are three keywords, so one trigger word can cost three slots.
- One automation per keyword. You cannot reuse "PRICE" on two automations with two different replies.
- 15-minute delay before the reply, unless you reply to the person first. The commenter has usually left the post by then.
- Desktop only. Comment to message and Custom keywords cannot be set up from the mobile app.
- One fixed short text reply for every commenter. No second message if they don't answer.
- No follow-up reminder, no email or phone capture, no Google Sheets, no product carousel.
- No per-post analytics, and no way to run it on comments posted before you set it up. No AI.
The rules that apply to everyone, free or paid.
Some of what people call "Business Suite limits" are Meta platform rules that bind every tool equally, including Reachlee. A private reply can only go to someone who commented on your Page's post, must be sent within 7 days of the comment, and only one message can be sent per comment. Only when the person responds can you continue, inside the 24-hour window. Switching tools changes none of that; it changes what fits inside the one reply, how fast it arrives, and what happens after the person writes back. Full rule set: Facebook Page automation rules and the Messenger 24-hour rule.
- One private reply per comment, within 7 days. Meta's rule, enforced on Meta's side.
- The person's reply opens the 24-hour window; your private reply alone does not.
- Pages only: personal profiles and Groups are not supported by the Messenger Platform.
- Per-Page rate limits (750 private replies per hour, among others) apply regardless of tool.

Business Suite details as of September 2026. Reachlee is a Meta-verified tech provider; both run on the official Messenger Platform.
Be honest with yourself before paying for anything. Business Suite's Comment to message is the right choice if your Page gets a manageable trickle of comments, you want one plain answer ("We open at 9, the menu is at the counter"), a 15-minute delay doesn't hurt, and you don't need to know who tapped what. A local restaurant answering "hours?" comments, a community Page pointing to a fixed FAQ, a small shop saying "we've messaged you the price list" once: all served well by the free automation. If you can list your trigger words on one hand with their casings, start there. It costs nothing and it teaches you what people actually comment, which is the data you want before deciding whether a paid tool is worth it.
When you have outgrown it.
Each of these is a specific thing the free automation cannot do. If two or more apply, switching pays for itself quickly.
The reply must arrive while they're still there
A 15-minute delay is fine for hours and directions, not for a launch, lead magnet or giveaway where the commenter is gone in two minutes. Reachlee replies within seconds.
Five case-sensitive words aren't enough
"Menu", "menu" and "MENU" burn three slots. Reachlee matches case-insensitively, accepts several keywords per automation, or matches any comment when that's what you want.
Different posts need different replies
Business Suite's keyword is Page-wide with one reply. If "LINK" on your recipe post should send a different link from "LINK" on your course post, you need per-post automations.
You want the email or phone, not just the thread
A thread you can't message after 24 hours is a lead you can lose. Reachlee asks for an email and/or phone inside the thread, validates it, saves it to Contacts and, on Business, syncs to Google Sheets. Full flow in Facebook Messenger automation.
You want a second chance, and the comments you missed
The free tool sends once and stops. Reachlee sends one follow-up inside the 24-hour window, cancelled on reply or click, and Retrigger covers the last 7 days of a post's comments, skipping anyone already messaged.
You want to know what worked, or you sell more than one thing
Without per-post analytics you are guessing. Reachlee shows runs and clicks per automation, and its carousel sends up to 10 cards with up to 3 tracked buttons each in one message.
How to switch without a gap.
Connect the Page and rebuild the automation
Sign in with Google, click Connect Facebook and pick the Pages you administer (Pages count toward your account limit like Instagram accounts: Free 1, Pro 3, Business 10). Create a comment automation with your keywords, a tracked link, and the optional public reply, capture step and follow-up. Step-by-step in [How to auto-message Facebook commenters](/how-to/facebook-comment-to-messenger/).
Turn off the Business Suite automation
Two tools replying to the same comment compete for the one private reply Meta allows. Disable Comment to message in Business Suite once the Reachlee automation is live.
Test from another profile, then Retrigger
Comment the keyword from a profile that isn't a Page admin (the Page's own comments are ignored). Once the reply lands, Retrigger the post to reach the last 7 days of commenters. If anything misfires, use [Facebook comment-to-message not working](/guides/facebook-comment-to-message-not-working/).
Start on the free plan, not on faith.
Reachlee's free plan connects 1 account (a Facebook Page or an Instagram account) with full comment-to-Messenger automation and no credit card. Pro ($9/mo, ₹499 in India) unlocks 3 accounts, every-post triggers, Retrigger and follow-ups. Growth ($14/mo, ₹899 in India) adds Reachlee AI with 1,000 credits. Business ($29/mo) adds 10 accounts, 5 team seats, Google Sheets and 2,500 AI credits.
Start freeBusiness Suite automations, answered.
Why can't I find Comment to message in the Business Suite app on my phone?
Because Comment to message and Custom keywords are desktop-only to set up. Open Business Suite in a desktop browser → Inbox → Automations. Once created, the automation runs regardless of device; creating and editing it needs desktop.
Why does Business Suite wait 15 minutes before replying?
That is how its keyword automations work: the reply is sent after a 15-minute delay unless you reply to the person first, giving a human a chance to answer. It also means the commenter has usually scrolled on by the time it arrives, the most common reason Pages move to a Messenger Platform tool like Reachlee.
Are Business Suite keywords really case-sensitive?
Yes. "Price" and "price" are different keywords, and with a cap of 5 you run out fast covering casings. Tell your audience the exact spelling in the post and use it consistently. Reachlee matches case-insensitively, so one entry covers every casing.
Does the free automation reply to comments that were already there?
No, only to comments posted after you set it up. Meta permits a private reply within 7 days of a comment, and Reachlee's Retrigger uses that window, skipping people already messaged. Nothing, free or paid, can reach comments older than 7 days.
Can the free automation send a link or a button?
It sends one short text reply. You can type a URL into the text, but there is no button, no tracked link, no carousel and no way to see who clicked. Reachlee sends tracked links and buttons, going out as text first when needed so the reply always lands, and reports clicks per automation.
Is Business Suite's Frequently asked questions the same as ice breakers?
Yes. Developers call it ice breakers: up to 4 questions per locale, text up to 80 characters, shown only in a new, empty conversation with the Page, each tap arriving as a postback the Page can answer automatically. Reachlee configures the same 4 questions per Page and answers them for you.
Does using Reachlee instead of Business Suite change Meta's rules?
No. One private reply per comment, within 7 days, and the 24-hour window after the person replies apply to every tool on the Messenger Platform. Reachlee enforces them with a pre-flight gate and backs off on Meta's rate-limit headers. What changes is what you can do inside those rules. Instagram twin: Instagram DM limits; the paid-tool field: Manychat alternatives.
