Turn Instagram comments
into phone numbers you own.
Someone comments your keyword. Reachlee DMs them and asks for their number. They type it — with or without a country code, however they like — and it lands in your contacts as a lead. Your team follows up on WhatsApp or a call the same day.
What is Instagram phone number capture?
Phone number capture is the workflow where you collect a prospect's phone number inside an Instagram DM conversation — no landing page, no form, no link out of the app. Someone comments your keyword on a post or Reel. Reachlee sends them a DM asking for their number. They type it back the way a normal person types a phone number — "98765 43210", "+91-98765-43210", "(555) 123 4567" — and Reachlee reads the number out of the message automatically, saves it to your contacts as a lead, and sends your thank-you message, with a link button if you configured one. The whole exchange takes under a minute of the prospect's time and zero minutes of yours. For businesses that close deals over a phone call or a WhatsApp chat — real estate agents, clinics, salons, coaches, and anyone selling in a market where WhatsApp is the default business channel — this is the shortest possible path from a comment on a Reel to a live conversation with a buyer.
- Trigger: someone comments your keyword — "PRICE", "VISIT", "BOOK" — on a post or Reel.
- Reachlee DMs them asking for their phone number, in your words.
- They reply. The number is read out of their message automatically — spaces, dashes, brackets, country code or not.
- The number is saved to your contacts as a lead, and your thank-you message goes out — with a link button if you set one up.
- Your team follows up on WhatsApp or with a call. That part stays human — which is exactly why it converts.
From comment to captured number in three steps.
Pick the template and a keyword
Choose the "Collect phone numbers" template, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account, and pick the post (or all posts) plus the keyword that starts the flow — "PRICE", "VISIT", "CALL ME". You can also add phone capture as an ask-first step inside any automation you already run.
Write the ask and the thank-you
Compose the DM that asks for the number — something like "Drop your number and I'll WhatsApp you the details today." Then write the thank-you message that fires once the number is captured. Add a link button to it if you want to send a brochure, a catalogue, or a booking page alongside.
Go live and follow up
Publish. Every commenter gets the ask, every reply with a number gets parsed and saved to your contacts, and every captured lead gets your thank-you. You open your contacts list, see fresh numbers with the source automation attached, and your team starts WhatsApp conversations while the interest is still warm.
Built for how people actually type phone numbers.
Nobody types their number in E.164 format. Reachlee doesn't expect them to.
Reads any number format
With a country code or without one. With spaces, dashes, dots, or brackets. "+91 98765 43210", "98765-43210", "(555) 123-4567" — Reachlee reads the number out of the message however the person typed it, so you never lose a lead to formatting.
One polite retry, not a dead end
If someone replies with something that isn't a number — "sure, one sec" or a question — Reachlee can send one polite retry asking again. And if they typo first and send the real number in their next message, it still gets captured. One retry, never a nag loop.
Standalone template or add-on step
Run it as its own automation with the "Collect phone numbers" template, or drop it as an ask-first step inside any other automation you've built. Gate anything behind the number — the link, the price list, the details.
One lead list, email and phone together
Phone leads land in the same Reachlee contacts list as your email leads — one place, not two exports to reconcile. Each lead keeps its source automation, so you know which post produced which number.
Meta Ads audience export
Export your leads as a CSV formatted for Meta Ads custom audiences — phone number is a match key, just like email. Retarget the exact people who asked about your listing, your treatment, or your program.
Works before a product carousel
Selling from DMs? Put the phone ask before your product carousel is delivered. The prospect gives their number, then gets the carousel — so every person browsing your products is already a lead your team can follow up with.
Where a phone number beats an email, every time.
In real estate, clinics, salons, and coaching — and in any market where WhatsApp is the default business channel — a phone number is a conversation today. An email is a newsletter someday.
Real estate: from listing Reel to site visit
Your listing Reel pulls 80 comments asking "price?" and "is this still available?". You reply "DM sent!" to each one, half never open the DM, and by the weekend the warm ones have gone cold or found another agent.
Keyword "VISIT" fires a DM: "Drop your number and I'll WhatsApp you the price, floor plan, and available slots." Every serious buyer's number lands in your contacts within minutes of the comment. Your team is booking site visits on WhatsApp the same afternoon — while your competitor is still typing replies.
Salons and clinics: bookings without a booking link
You post a before/after Reel. Comments flood in asking about the treatment. You paste a booking link back — but links get ignored, forms get abandoned, and you have no way to reach the people who didn't finish.
Keyword "BOOK" asks for a number instead of pushing a link. The front desk gets a list of interested people with phone numbers and WhatsApps each one a slot. No abandoned form, no lost lead — every interested commenter is now someone you can actually reach.
Coaches: discovery calls that actually happen
Someone comments "interested" on your post. You send a scheduling link. They open it, see the calendar, close it, and you never hear from them again — and you have no email, no number, nothing.
Keyword "CALL" captures their number first, then sends your scheduler in the thank-you message's link button. Even if they don't book right away, you have their number — and a personal WhatsApp message from you converts far better than a cold calendar page.

Does Reachlee message people on WhatsApp?
No. Reachlee works entirely inside Instagram DMs — it asks for the number, captures it, and saves it to your contacts. It does not send WhatsApp messages. The follow-up on WhatsApp (or by phone call) is done by you or your team, from your own WhatsApp. That boundary is deliberate: the capture is automated because it's repetitive, and the conversation stays human because that's what closes the sale. Reachlee's job is to make sure every interested commenter becomes a number your team can actually reach.
What phone number formats does Reachlee understand?
All the ways real people type numbers. With a country code ("+91 98765 43210") or without one ("98765 43210"). With spaces, dashes, dots, or brackets — "(555) 123-4567", "98765-43210", "9876543210" all work. The number is read out of the reply automatically, even if it's wrapped in a sentence like "sure, it's 98765 43210, message me anytime". You don't need to teach your audience a format, and you never lose a lead because someone used dashes instead of spaces.
What happens if someone replies with something that isn't a number?
Reachlee can send one polite retry — a short follow-up asking for the number again, in your words. One retry, not a loop, so the conversation never feels like arguing with a robot. And the capture stays open: if someone typos their number first and then sends the correct one in their next message, the real number still gets picked up and saved. If they never send a number, nothing is saved and the thread simply stays a normal DM conversation.
Can I export the numbers I capture?
Yes. Every captured number lives in your Reachlee contacts, alongside your email leads, in one list. You can export the full list as a CSV formatted for Meta Ads custom audiences — phone number is a match key for Meta's ad matching, just like email — so you can retarget the exact people who asked about your offer. On the Business plan, leads are also piped into a Google Sheet you connect, landing row by row within seconds of capture. Your numbers are yours.
Is collecting phone numbers in DMs allowed on Instagram?
Yes. Reachlee is built on Meta's official Instagram API and is a Meta-verified Tech Provider. Every flow starts with an action the user took — they commented your keyword — and the person shares their number willingly, in their own reply, inside a private conversation. There's no scraping, no pre-filling, no harvesting numbers from profiles. It's the same exchange that happens when a customer says "can you WhatsApp me the details?" — just automated so nobody falls through the cracks.
Can I ask for email AND phone?
Yes. Phone capture and email capture are both ask-first steps you can put inside an automation, so a single flow can collect both — for example, ask for the email, then the number, then deliver the thank-you with your link. Both land on the same contact in your Reachlee contacts list, so you get one lead record with an email and a phone number, not two half-records in two tools. Most businesses lead with whichever channel they actually follow up on — for WhatsApp-first teams, that's phone.
Which plan do I need for phone number capture?
Phone capture is a Pro feature — $9/month. Pro includes the "Collect phone numbers" template, the ask-first phone step for any automation, unlimited DMs and leads, 3 Instagram accounts, and lifetime analytics. If you want every captured number to land in a Google Sheet automatically — handy when the front desk or a sales teammate works out of a Sheet — that's the Business plan at $29/month, which also adds 5 team seats. There's no per-contact pricing on any plan.
