How to auto reply to Instagram comments
with AI, without sounding like a bot

Six steps on the official Instagram API. The AI answers substantive comments in your tone, skips emoji and spam, waits a few minutes so it reads as human, and moves anyone asking for a link into the DM. Included at $14/mo (₹799 in India).

1Setup is connect Instagram → add knowledge and a voice → switch on AI Comments with a post scope → watch the Activity feed. About ten minutes.
2The AI replies only to substantive comments, under 150 characters, never with a link, 2–20 minutes after the comment, one reply per commenter per post. Emoji-only, tag-a-friend, spam, and negative comments are skipped for free.
3A comment asking for a price or link gets a short public 'check your DMs' reply plus a private DM carrying the link. AI Comments are on Reachlee Growth, $14/mo (₹799 in India), 1,000 AI credits.

The short answer

To auto reply to Instagram comments with AI, use a tool built on Meta's official Instagram API, connect your Business or Creator account, give the AI your knowledge and a brand voice, and switch on AI comment replies for recent or selected posts. A good setup replies only to substantive comments, keeps public replies short and link-free, delays them a few minutes, and moves buy intent into a DM. In Reachlee this is six steps, AI included at $14/mo.

How it works

Set up AI comment replies in six steps

01

Connect your Instagram account

Sign in to Reachlee with Google and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram's own login. No password is shared; this is the OAuth flow Meta requires. Comment webhooks start arriving the moment the account is connected.

02

Add knowledge

Open Reachlee AI → Knowledge. Scan your website link, paste your price list and policies, or answer a short interview that becomes an editable source. Comment replies draw on this knowledge, so a comment asking 'is this available in medium?' gets a real answer, not a generic thank-you. The AI never reads your private conversations to build knowledge.

03

Set the role and voice

Describe the role in one line, generate a brand-voice paragraph, and edit it until it sounds like you. Guardrails come prefilled: no promises, no medical or financial advice, never invent prices or links. Public comments are where tone matters most, so spend two minutes here.

04

Switch on AI Comments and choose a scope

One toggle plus a scope: recent posts (the last 7 days, the default) or a hand-picked list. Keyword comment automations you already run take precedence; if one matches a comment, the AI stays out, so a comment never gets two replies.

05

Let the classifier decide what deserves a reply

Each new comment is classified before anything is generated: emoji-only, tag-a-friend, negative, spam, or substantive. Only substantive comments get a reply. Your own comments and anything already replied to are skipped. Skips cost no credits.

06

Watch the Activity feed

Every comment reply appears in Activity with the original comment, the text sent, the classification, and a jump link. Delete a reply from the row if you want it gone, or pause the AI globally. If a post is going somewhere you did not expect, narrow the scope to selected posts.

What the AI skips

Skip the comments a human would skip

Replying to everything is how automation gets spotted. Six kinds of comment the AI leaves alone.

01

Emoji-only

A string of fire emoji is applause, not a question. Replying 'Thanks so much!' to every one of them is the single most recognisable bot pattern on Instagram. The AI leaves them, and you can heart them yourself.

02

Tag-a-friend

'@priya look at this' is a conversation between two people you are not part of. Jumping in reads as intrusive. Skipped.

03

Spam and promotion

Follower-selling accounts, crypto pitches, and 'DM me for collab' from a page with eleven posts. Answering gives them reach. Skipped, and you can delete them from the Activity row.

04

Negative comments

Criticism and complaints in public deserve a human, not a model that might apologise for the wrong thing. The AI does not reply to negative comments; they stay visible for you to handle.

05

Your own comments

Replies you post from the connected account are never treated as comments to answer. The AI also skips any comment already answered by a keyword automation, so there is never a double reply.

06

Second comments from the same person

One AI reply per commenter per post, ever. If someone comments three times, they get one answer. A back-and-forth belongs in the DM, where the 24-hour window and your knowledge do the real work.

Why the reply arrives 2–20 minutes later

A reply that lands four seconds after a comment tells everyone reading the thread that nobody is home. Reachlee schedules each AI comment reply with a random delay of 2 to 20 minutes so the timing looks like a person checking their phone between tasks. The delay also spreads sends across the hour, which keeps you well inside Meta's pacing limits when a Reel takes off. Three more rules keep public replies human:

  • Under 150 characters. Long public replies read as canned. Short ones read as someone typing on a phone.
  • Never a link. Links in comments look like spam and get comments flagged. Anything that needs a link moves to the DM.
  • In your voice, in their language. A Hinglish comment gets a Hinglish reply; a Tamil one gets Tamil. Same knowledge, different script.
Real scenarios

Real comments, before and after

Replies are generated from your knowledge and voice, so yours will read like you. Prices are illustrative.

"Does this come in a bigger size?" under a product Reel

Before

Buried under 80 comments by the time you open the app. The buyer scrolls on.

With Reachlee

Eleven minutes later: "Yes, up to XXL, same price. Sizes chart is in the DM if you want it." Short, in your tone, no link in public. If they reply asking for it, the DM handles the rest.

"price? link?" under a course announcement

Before

You paste the same URL in fifteen public replies, which looks like spam and gets ignored anyway.

With Reachlee

Public: "Sent you the details in your DMs." Private, through your Share-link goal: "The 6-week course is $149, next cohort starts on the 14th. Here is the enrolment page." One credit, and the click is tracked as a goal success.

"🔥🔥🔥" and "@rahul dekh" under the same post

Before

A basic bot thanks both of them, and the thread now looks automated to everyone scrolling past.

With Reachlee

Nothing. Both are skipped for free, and the thread keeps looking like a real conversation.

FAQ

AI comment replies — FAQ

Is it allowed to auto reply to Instagram comments with AI?

Yes, when the tool uses Meta's official Instagram API. Comment replies posted through the API are the same replies you could post by hand; the rules are about pacing and behaviour, not about who typed. Reachlee spaces AI replies 2–20 minutes after the comment and rides the same hourly send budget as everything else. Tools that ask for your Instagram password are browser bots and risk your account.

Rules for AI replies on Instagram

Will the AI make things up in a public comment?

It answers only from the knowledge you add, scanned website links, pasted text, or an opt-in interview, and never invents prices or links. Public replies contain no links at all. When a question is outside your knowledge, the AI stays silent rather than guessing, and every reply it does send is logged in the Activity feed.

Why does the AI not reply instantly?

An instant reply tells everyone reading the thread that a bot is running. Each AI comment reply is scheduled 2–20 minutes after the comment so timing looks human, and the spread keeps sends inside Meta's pacing limits when a post takes off. Keyword automations, which are meant to deliver a link fast, still fire immediately.

Can the AI put my link in the comment reply?

No, by design. Links in public comments look like spam and get flagged. When a comment shows buy or link intent, the AI posts a short public 'check your DMs' reply and sends the link privately through your Share-link goal. The click is tracked, so you see which posts and comments actually convert.

Will it reply to every comment on my posts?

No. Only substantive comments get a reply. Emoji-only, tag-a-friend, spam, and negative comments are skipped, as are your own comments and anything a keyword automation already answered. One AI reply per commenter per post. Skips cost no credits.

Can I limit it to certain posts?

Yes. Scope is either recent posts (the last 7 days, the default) or a list of posts you pick. Narrow it to selected posts when you want the AI on product launches but not on personal updates.

How much does AI comment reply cost?

AI Comments are on Reachlee Growth at $14/mo (₹799 in India) with 1,000 AI credits shared with AI Replies, and on Business at $29/mo (₹1,499 in India) with 2,500 credits. One credit per reply sent. A buy-intent comment that gets both a public reply and a private DM costs one credit total. Free and Pro have no AI.
