# Messenger Follow-Up Message for Facebook Pages

> Send one automatic follow-up in Messenger when someone opened your Page's chat but never clicked or replied. It cancels itself if they respond. Pro, $9/mo.

Use case · Messenger follow-up

# They asked for the link, got it, then went quiet.
One reminder brings them back.

Add a follow-up to any Facebook Page automation and Reachlee sends one short reminder in Messenger, 30 minutes to 20 hours after your last message, only if the person hasn't clicked or written back. If they reply or click first, it never goes out.

Official Messenger Platform · One reminder, never a sequence · Pages start on Pro

1A follow-up is one extra Messenger message that goes out after a delay you choose, from 30 minutes to 20 hours, when the person hasn't clicked your link or typed a reply.

2The timer restarts after each message Reachlee sends in that conversation, and the decision is made again at the moment the reminder is due, so a late reply or click still cancels it.

3It stays inside Messenger's 24-hour window and never becomes a sequence. Included on Pro ($9/mo), Growth and Business.

## Can a Facebook Page follow up automatically in Messenger?

Yes, inside Meta's rules. A Page may send promotional messages for 24 hours after a person's last message or button tap, so any reminder has to land in that window. Reachlee's follow-up waits 30 minutes to 20 hours after your last message, checks again that the person hasn't clicked or replied, and sends one reminder. A private reply to a comment doesn't open the window by itself; the person's tap or reply does.

## Where Page conversations go quiet

Most Messenger automations on a Page follow the same shape. Someone comments or messages a keyword, your Page answers, they tap 'Send it', and the link arrives. Then a notification from a friend, a video, a work call, and the link sits unopened under a pile of other chats. They didn't say no. They forgot. A follow-up catches that moment. Reachlee watches each conversation an automation starts, and if the person hasn't opened your link or written anything back after the delay you set, it sends one short message in the same thread, optionally with the link button again. If they clicked, replied or asked a question in the meantime, nothing is sent. Because Messenger only lets a Page send promotional messages for 24 hours after the person's last action, the delay tops out at 20 hours, which leaves room for the reminder to arrive while the conversation is still open.

* Armed: after each message the automation sends in that conversation, counting from the most recent one.
* Cancelled: by a click on any of the automation's tracked links, or by a message the person types.
* Sent: one reminder, in the same thread, with your link buttons if you choose. A reminder never schedules another.

How it works

## Switching on a follow-up for a Page automation.

01

### Open the automation

Any Page automation can carry a follow-up: comment-to-Messenger, a keyword reply, an ice breaker answer, a product carousel, an email or phone question. Open it from Automations with the Page selected at the top of the sidebar.

02

### Open 'If they go quiet' and switch it on

Turn on 'send a follow-up nudge' and move the slider to the delay you want. It snaps to 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 or 20 hours; 2 hours is where it starts.

03

### Write the reminder

Keep it to a line or two in your own voice, for example 'Still want the price list? Here it is again'. Re-sending the automation's link button is on by default, so the reminder carries the same link and nobody has to scroll up to find it.

04

### Save and let it decide per person

Go Live, or Save changes on a live automation. From then on Reachlee arms the reminder after each message it sends and checks the person's activity again when the time comes, so nobody who already answered is nudged.

How the reminder behaves

## Small rules that keep a follow-up polite.

01

### Counts from your latest message

If the automation sends an opening message, then the link after they tap, the clock restarts at the link. Quiet means quiet since the last thing your Page said, so nobody is asked 'still want the link?' about a link that hasn't been sent yet.

02

### A tap is not an answer

Tapping your 'Send it' button moves the conversation forward but doesn't cancel the reminder; that tap is exactly what delivers the link the reminder is about. Only a click on the link or a message the person types counts as a response.

03

### Checked again when it's due

Scheduling isn't the decision. When the reminder comes due, Reachlee looks again: a new click, a typed reply, an opt-out, a paused automation or a closed 24-hour window each stop it. A wrong reminder costs more goodwill than a missed one, so the bar is high.

04

### Its own tracked links

When the reminder re-sends your link buttons, they get fresh tracked links. Clicks that come from the reminder are counted apart from clicks on the original message, so you can see whether the follow-up is earning its place.

05

### One reminder, always

A reminder never schedules another reminder. There is no setting for a second or third nudge, because a sequence turns a helpful Page into one people mute or block, and a Page's messaging reputation is hard to rebuild.

06

### Branches on the canvas, too

Automations built on the flow canvas can react to a missed click directly. The 'Link + reminder if they don't click' template sends the link, waits, and sends a reminder only on the 'not clicked' branch. Follow-up steps on the canvas need Pro, the same as here.

Real scenarios

## Three Page automations that gain from a reminder.

### An event registration link

Before

A community Page posts a free workshop. Ninety people comment SEAT, tap the button and receive the registration link. Thirty register; the rest meant to, later.

With Reachlee

A 4-hour follow-up reads 'Doors open Saturday at 10\. Here's the sign-up link again' with the button re-attached. People who already registered clicked the link, so they never see it.

### A salon's price list

Before

Messages with PRICE get the price list and a Book button straight away. Many people read it during a break and close Messenger before booking.

With Reachlee

A 2-hour reminder with the Book button lands while the decision is still warm. Anyone who replied with a question in between gets a person or an AI answer instead, never the nudge.

### A guide after an email

Before

Commenters share an email for a free guide and get the download link in Messenger, but a share of them never open it, so the lead never sees the guide.

With Reachlee

A 12-hour follow-up with the link button puts the guide back at the top of their chats the next morning. The email is already saved either way.

## Following up with Page leads: by hand, Business Suite or Reachlee.

FAQ

## Messenger follow-ups, the questions Pages ask first.

Why can't the reminder go out after a day or two?

Because Messenger doesn't allow it for any tool. A Page can send promotional messages for 24 hours after the person last messaged it or tapped one of its buttons. After that, only narrow message tags for non-promotional updates are permitted, and a 'still interested?' reminder isn't one of them. That is why the delay stops at 20 hours: the reminder lands inside the window with time to spare. A tool that offers a follow-up three days later is either outside Meta's rules or will fail to deliver.

[The Messenger 24-hour rule](/guides/facebook-messenger-24-hour-rule/)

Will someone who already replied get the reminder?

No. A message the person types, or a click on any of the automation's tracked links, cancels it. Reachlee doesn't only check when the reminder is scheduled; it checks again at the moment it would send, so a reply that arrives a minute before the reminder still stops it. People who opted out, and conversations where the automation was paused, are skipped as well.

They tapped my button but never opened the link. Do they get the reminder?

Yes, and that is the case the feature is built for. Tapping 'Send it' delivers the link; it doesn't mean they used it. Reachlee treats a button tap as progress, not as an answer, so the reminder still goes if the link stays unclicked. Only a click or a typed message cancels it.

Can a follow-up reach someone who never answered my first message?

Usually not, and that is Meta's rule rather than a Reachlee setting. When your Page privately replies to a comment, the conversation is open only for that one reply; it opens fully when the person taps or writes back. So build the first message around a button worth tapping. The people who tap and then stall are the ones a reminder reaches.

Does it work with carousels and lead capture?

Yes. The follow-up attaches to any Page automation. On a product carousel, re-sending the link uses up to three of the cards' links in card order. On lead capture, the reminder goes out after the person received the reward link and didn't open it; their email or number is already saved.

What should a good reminder say?

One line that sounds like you, plus the button. 'Here's the menu again, kitchen's open till 10' works better than a pitch. Mention something concrete, like a date, a time or a size, so it reads as service, not pressure. Short delays of 1 to 4 hours suit time-sensitive offers; 12 to 20 hours suits guides and sign-ups that people open the next morning.

Is it on the Free plan, and does Instagram have it too?

Follow-ups are part of Pro ($9/mo) and above, and Facebook Pages start on Pro. Instagram automations have the same follow-up with the same 30-minute to 20-hour delay, and both run from one Reachlee workspace.
